Help Palestine [hidayahnet] How to Help Poor Families

by Sound Vision Staff writer

More than you think. Most young adults are blessed with the creativity and intelligence to find ways to help others despite limited resources. Here are some tips that can perhaps start the creative process:

1. Give a portion of your allowance each week to a poor and needy person or a cause in support of them

How much is your allowance or your salary from your part-time job? Not much, you might say. The great thing about giving though is that in about 99 percent of cases, you are not restricted to how much you can give to help the poor and needy.

That means for instance, instead of dishing out a dollar a day for a can of soda from the vending machine at school or work, maybe you can save this money two days of the week. Then give this money to the Zakat and Sadaqa committee of your mosque, a poor person you know in your neighborhood, a local soup kitchen or to a worthy cause abroad.

2. Encourage your partners/parents to pay Zakat

Zakat is something too many Muslims neglect. If you are eligible to give Zakat, you must pay. If you aren't eligible, ask your parents about Zakat and if they pay, how and to whom. If they do not give Zakat, respectfully and politely emphasize to them the importance of this necessary pillar of Islam and encourage them to start paying it. Use wisdom and beautiful preaching.

3. Encourage a family Sadaqa (charity) project

Get the whole family to pitch in at least once a month to a worthy cause by organizing a family Sadaqa project. Call a family meeting (if you've never had one of these, this is a great time to start) and discuss your idea. Then come to an agreement on how everyone can help the poor. Whether it's contributing a set amount a week as a group with Dad giving the money to the Masjid after Friday prayers or setting up a box somewhere in the house where family members can privately donate, you all decide.

4. Talk about it in your youth group

What are the first steps in finding solutions to problems? Dua (supplication) then brainstorming and discussion.

At your next youth group meeting, put the difficulties of the poor and needy in your community on the agenda. Simply discuss and brainstorm. You don't have to come up with a plan all at once. But discussing this will start the process and keep it in people's minds.

If you don't have a youth group, get your friends together. Instead of having the usual hang out time one day, substitute this with a formal meeting. Now you have a youth group that can do this exercise.

5. Visit a poor part of town

How many big cities have "poor quarters"? Almost every single one. Sometimes, we need to see the reality of poverty right in front of us to really believe it's there, especially if we live in a financially well-off part of a city.

Go with your youth group to visit these areas. You don't have to necessarily bring money or food for them (although that wouldn't be a bad idea). Talk to the people, if they are willing to be approached, about living conditions and how they ended up there. Prepare yourself for an eye-opening experience.

6. Do a class presentation on poverty

Stumped about what to do for a school assignment? Why not talk about the plight of the poor in your community. Do your research thoroughly. Get statistics on poverty, real stories from books and perhaps even video- or audiotaped interviews of the poor and homeless. Show the human face of poverty. Follow the presentation up with a class collection for the poor.

7. Don't just collect money

There are plenty of basic necessities that people have to meet. Some people can't afford new shoes. So hold a shoe drive (some teens have already done this - read this link about it). Others cannot afford clothing. Hold a clothing drive. Collect the material, arrange for cars, vans or trucks to transport it to where it's needed, then make sure the material is properly distributed.

8. Write about poverty in your school paper

Have you got a knack for writing? Then write about poverty in your school newspaper. Educate your student body not just with words, but photos too, if possible. If you've visited a poor part of the city (see tips above), then you have plenty of material and personal material to write about.

9. Write about Zakat and Sadaqa in your Masjid newsletter

Does your Masjid have a newsletter? If so, dedicate the next issue to the topic of Zakat and Sadaqa and how they help the poor and the needy. You can interview an Imam to get the basics straight. You can also include various charitable causes readers can give their money to locally to help the poor and needy.

If you don't have a Muslim youth newsletter, maybe this can be your premiere edition.

10. Put the information on a website

If you put the above-mentioned newsletter or at least some of the articles online, you 'll probably have more young people reading it than if you limited the information to print only.

11. Collect money in your group

After your next group meeting, pass around a box to collect donations for the poor and needy. Better yet, make this a weekly practice. Make one person responsible for collecting the money and sending it off after consulting everyone on which cause it should be sent for.

12. Organize a youth seminar on poverty

Get a youth-friendly Imam or speaker to come and talk about how Islam has successfully fought against poverty in the past and can continue to do so in the present. Then, after his lecture, hold a workshop with participants and come up with 21 ideas of how the audience and Muslim teens in general can help fight poverty in America and abroad Islamically.

Help Palestine [hidayahnet] File - Reminder from Moderator

Reminder:

Assalamualaikum

1- The moderators will hide email of the senders to hidayahnet. As such, if you wish to include your email (maybe for others to reply to you), please include your email address in the body part of your email.

2- If you wish to promote your business, please only send no more than one mail per week and please combine all promotional emails in one email (rather than sending 3 or 4 emails promoting different products.

3- For those interested to reply to particular business advertisement, please email direct to the sender, and not to the egroup.

4- Be careful before promoting any external islamic links as it could be developed by non-muslim aiming to spread false teaching. If any doubt, please ask the moderator to help.

----------------------------------------------------------

If your mailbox clogged with mails from Hidayahnet, you may wish to change your membership settings as below:

Please note of the 3 ways in receiving email/messages:
- individual email
- daily digest (all messages combined in one single email per day)
- no email (receive no messages but still allow you to read the messages on the web)

The above settings can be changed by yourself or alternatively, you can email the moderator of your request.

----------------------------------------------------------

As a reminder for those sending our forwarding emails. To avoid those msg becoming junk and go unread, and becoming big in size unnecessarily, I would appreciate if sender put some effort in making it nicer and more attractive to reader. Some suggestions include:

- cut and paste the main message/content, (leaving behind the long thread/list of previous senders). However, pls include the source of message, usually the original sender (the first sender!) name (and if possible email and other details which deem important).

- pls also make sure that the "subject" of the email is not long winded, such as: [other group]fwd[other group]Prayer at the time of war ...etc. Please only put the topic of the msg, and delete the rest (eg, subject = Prayer at the time of war)

- also, usually we forget to remove the unnessary advert by yahoo and content from previous egroup (such as footnote) at the bottom of the email. Kindly remove them as they are irrelevant.

Hopefully the above, can make your email looks tidy and reduces the size significantly, and most importantly, I will have no objection in APPROVING them.

Above is only suggestion, and I welcome any other comments/suggestions.

Wassalam

Hidayahnet Moderator

p/s: We welcome any comments and suggestions to improve the egroup. Kindly send it direct to the moderators.

Help Palestine [hidayahnet] Press Release: Triple Murder of Three Innocent Muslim students at Chapel Hill; Atmosphere of Hate Created by FOX TV and Glorification of the American "Sniper" Movie

Press Release
Triple Murder of three Innocent Muslim students at Chapel Hill.
Atmosphere of hate created by FOX TV and glorification of the American Sniper Movie

People of conscience in North Carolina and Muslims across America are shocked by this heinous triple murder.
These students, two hijabi women and a man had done no harm to the shooter or anyone else. This was hate directed at Islam and Muslims.
Muslims, especially students, are well respected and liked in North Carolina. They are people who live lawful lives, working hard, and are honest and decent in their daily lives. They care for their neighbors and people of all religions.

Muslims in North Carolina have not offended anyone and nothing like this horrible triple murder has happened before.
We are glad that the shooter has been arrested and we urge that justice be not delayed.

However, it is noticeable that the atmosphere of hate has been created by FOX TV which has viewers across America. People like O'Reilly, Hannity, the Geller women, and others have been spewing hatred against Islam and Muslims almost on a daily basis. Judge Janine and numerous Fox contributors present Islam and Muslims as a threat to every American. They also defend guns.

Every effort to create an understanding of Islam is shot down by Fox in a variety of ways. Even the study of a small chapter of the Qur'an is strongly opposed by Fox which has become a hate site, certainly not a source of information and understanding.

Both Fox and CNN have been touting the American Sniper movie. The killer of 160 people is presented as a great hero. Is it at all strange that people instigated by the Geller girls and Hannity, etc. would try to be shooters and snipers right here in America, targeting innocent US Muslim students who look a little like Iraqis.

We urge you  to become media conscious and rebut the hate and incitement which can easily turn into a triple murder.

Help Palestine [hidayahnet] Opponents of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) are cursed badly

Enemies of Prophet Muhammad  (صلى الله عليه وسلم) are cursed badly

Surely those who annoy Allah and
His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) Allah has cursed them

Prophet Muhammad  (صلى الله عليه وسلم) came with a divine mission to teach and reclaim (tame to the right path) the whole World, and he is entitled to the respect of all, even those who do not consciously acknowledge his mission. Quran has called annoyance of Prophet (Peace be upon him) to be actually annoyance of Allah azza Wajjal, we know very well that Allah is Lord of the worlds and is in no need of any of our actions, but in case of Prophet (Peace be upon him) Allah has called Prophet's annoyance to be "HIS OWN"

1
Indeed, those who cause
harm to Allah and His
Messenger, Allah has cursed
them in the world and the
Hereafter, and He has
prepared for them a
humiliating punishment
[33:57]
2
And those who cause harm
to believing men and believing women, for what they have not earned (deserved) have certainly
born on themselves the burden of a slander and a manifest (clear) sin. [33:58]
3
Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off (from the root) [108:3]
4
Indeed, those who disbelieve and hinder (others) from the way of Allah, and oppose the messenger after the guidance has been manifested unto them, never will they harm Allah in the least. And He will render their deeds worthless. [47:32]

5
And if you are patient and fear (Allah), their plot will not harm you at all. Surely, Allah is surrounding that which they do. [3:120]

6

Say: "Is it at Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were ridiculing." "Make no excuse. You have disbelieved after your
(confession of) belief." If We
forgive a party of you, We
shall punish another party,
because they have been
criminals. [9:65-66]
7
Indeed, We have sent you as a witness, and a bearer of good tidings, and a warner. So that you (O mankind) may believe in Allah and His Messenger, and may help him (the Messenger) and honor
him. And glorify Him (Allah)
morning and evening.
[48:8-9]
